internet, radio, telecom, technology, top 10, radio stations, Internet radio stations As an avid radio listener, I was overwhelmed when I first discovered Internet Radio. It was such a pleasure to listen to stations from all around the world. While travelling, I do enjoy listening to the local radio stations and once back home I tend to miss them. It was great to finally just stream some of those favourites sitting at home. Over the years Internet radio has evolved and with it the radio stations and services.
SHOUTcast
(www.shoutcast.com)
A great place to start when looking for a radio station. Shoutcast has over 40,000 radio stations in its directory and the total number changes all the time. While the stations are arranged essentially by genre, you can also see listings of the most popular and most listened to radio stations.
In order to listen to Shoutcast you can use a standard browser or many of the music players have the Shoutcast directory as an integral part of the player making it trivial to find a station and start enjoying the music.

Last.fm
(www.last.fm) I would call Last.fm a music discovery service and not just a radio station. For all practical purposes it acts like a radio station with the big difference that it is personalised to your music tastes.
Not only that, it actually refines what gets played by the more you listen. It learns, it sees your preferences and recommends similar stuff to you.
Its an extremely popular service and even after it became a paid only service, the loyalists have not left. I enjoy listening to last.fm and everything that it recommends and I mostly listen to it on a small Internet tablet rather than my laptop.

Mundu Radio
(mundu.com) One of the interesting changes that we are seeing is the fact that Internet Radio need not be consumed only on a computer. There are now several dedicated Internet devices including radios. Similar to this trend is the ability to use mobile devices for accessing various Internet services. Mundu radio fills this spot perfectly. It works on several different mobile devices including many of the phones.
Mundu Radio is small and light has many radio channels organised by genre and plays even on low-speed connections. So while we wait for telecom providers to give us affordable 3G, we can still enjoy music via Mundu Radio.

Grooveshark
(grooveshark.com) This one makes people happy. There is no DJ or automated playlist but here you are in-charge. It is similar to playing music off your own computer, the difference here being that it is a massive collection of music.
Grooveshark was initially started by students with the intention of selling your old CDs to them, the business model changed and the site goes on. As many of the radio sites are now doing Grooveshark also supports mobile devices and phones.

RadioParadise
(radioparadise.com) Radio Paradise is a really superb radio station that started with 'alternative' music. It's now just called 'eclectic'. Comes complete with a DJ and plays fabulous music all day long.
As a bonus, they have a slideshow of cool HD images which matches the audio progamming. There are multiple playlists available to suit your bandwidth and audio quality needs.
The site is totally user-supported and runs of the money from its listeners. The model is simple, pay-as-you-please. Some listeners pay the equivalent of their hourly wage and some just $5 per month. Most definitely worth visiting and listening to!

Radioverve
(radioverve.com/radio) If you like independent music and that too from India, then this is the place to go. There are several different channels, some interviews and some tremendous music.
The main site seems to be down for renovation but the stream and the radio player are most certainly working. I discovered some great bands and music here, and hope you do as well.

MusicIndiaOnline
(www.musicindiaonline.com) Not quite a radio station but a great place for Indian music. Bollywood, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Carnatic, Hindustani and several other genres available.
An excellent resource for Indian music for sure. The site could do with a change of user-interface and currently does not offer any support for mobile devices.
